Day 1 — Katunayake → Pinnawala → Dambulla → Sigiriya

Approx.travel time: 4–5hours, excluding sightseeing and stops

  • Meet and greet at Bandaranaike International Airport.
  • Travel towards Pinnawala through the scenic countryside.
  • Visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and observe elephants, subject to the day's programme and operating conditions.
  • Continue towards Dambulla.
  • Explore the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its ancient Buddhist murals and statues.
  • Continue to Sigiriya.
  • Experience a traditional Sigiriya village tour, including a scenic bullock-cart ride and an insight into rural Sri Lankan life.
  • Check in and relax at your hotel.

Day 2 — Sigiriya → Minneriya / Kaudulla → Polonnaruwa

  • Visit the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Explore the ancient rock citadel, landscaped gardens, frescoes and archaeological remains.
  • Enjoy a wildlife safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park, depending on seasonal conditions and wildlife movements.
  • Continue to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.
  • Explore the UNESCO-listed medieval capital, including the impressive Gal Vihara and other ancient monuments.
  • Discover the remains of one of Sri Lanka's great historic kingdoms.

Day 3 — Polonnaruwa → Trincomalee

Approx.distance: 100 km
Approx. travel time: 2.5–3 hours, excluding stops

  • Continue towards the east coast and the historic city of Trincomalee.
  • Visit Koneswaram Temple, dramatically located above the Indian Ocean at Swami Rock.
  • Enjoy spectacular coastal views from Lover's Leap.
  • Relax on the beautiful shores of Uppuveli or Nilaveli Beach.
  • Visit Fort Frederick and explore Trincomalee's historic surroundings.
  • Depending on available time and local conditions, visit the Kanniya Hot Wells.

Day 4 — Trincomalee → Pigeon Island → Sigiriya

  • Enjoy an optional whale and dolphin-watching excursion, subject to season, sea conditions and operator availability.
  • Alternatively, spend the morning relaxing at the beach.
  • Visit Pigeon Island National Park by boat, subject to weather and sea conditions.
  • Enjoy opportunities for snorkelling and exploring the clear coastal waters around the island.
  • Return to Trincomalee and continue towards Sigiriya.

Day 5 — Sigiriya → Kandy → Nuwara Eliya

Approx.distance: 170 km
Approx. travel time: 5–6 hours, excluding sightseeing and stops

  • Travel through the scenic central countryside towards Kandy.
  • Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of Sri Lanka's most important Buddhist sites.
  • Enjoy a walk around Kandy Lake and explore the city centre.
  • Visit a traditional tea plantation or tea factory and learn about Sri Lanka's famous Ceylon tea.
  • Continue towards Nuwara Eliya through spectacular mountain scenery, tea plantations and waterfalls.
  • Arrive in Nuwara Eliya and experience its cool climate and distinctive colonial character.

Day 6 — Nuwara Eliya → Katunayake / Airport

Approx.travel time to the airport: 5–6 hours, depending on route and traffic

  • Enjoy the cool morning atmosphere of Nuwara Eliya.
  • Visit Gregory Lake and take in the surrounding mountain scenery.
  • Visit Lover's Leap Waterfall, subject to time and local conditions.
  • Continue towards Bandaranaike International Airport through the scenic highlands and central lowlands.
